24 year-old Rustenburg born-and-bred singer/songwriter Tony X brings a fresh new face to the local RnB scene. Through his unique approach to the genre of RnB, Tony X has set his sights on quenching the industry’s thirst for a new superstar male singer.
With the urban RnB industry in Mzansi still struggling to establish itself as a solid mainstream genre, Tony X aspires to pioneer the genre’s rebirth. Influenced by the likes of Chris Brown, Omarion & Bryson Tiller, he brings to the table melodic hooks that generally touch on love, lust, romance and everything in between.
Since releasing his debut single, “What You Need”, a dancehall-infused single featuring labelmates Dee Xclsv and Manu WorldStar, Tony X has established himself as an artist to look out for. He followed the single up with the release of his debut EP, Just In Case, which went on to be featured on JOOX’s hot new urban music and was featured across several prominent blogs across the continent.
Tony X’s second single, “Lerato”, was released towards the end of 2019 and came after a brief hiatus during which he took his time to craft a fresh new sound.
In August Tony X released his most recent single titled Duze, just in time for women’s day.
The feeling of longing for the person you love most and wanting them close to you is a feeling many of us are familiar with now more than ever. In the song Duze, – a word that means “close” in isiZulu, fast-rising RnB newcomer, Tony X, expresses a feeling of yearning to be with someone. “Duze is a love letter from someone who is longing to be with the love of his life“ explained Tony X.
“I wrote the song at the beginning of a new relationship, which was a long distance relationship,” he says. “My producer, Profound, sent me the beat and I couldn’t get that guitar riff out of my head until I wrote the melody of the hook. It also marked the first time I tried writing in Zulu by myself – I managed to put the song together in three different languages, which I’ve never done before. It’s my most experimental work thus far and it has opened up the door for me to write more freely in vernac.”
Were looking forward to a whole lot more from this amazing artist.
